I SAW MY SON LOSE TODAY
BY DENNY DAVIS
My son is a wrestler;
I couldn't be prouder.
He's had a tremendous season, he's 13-0. 13 straight wins,
13 straight pins.
I couldn't be prouder.
I've watched as he defeated his opponents, humble in his
victory.
I couldn't be prouder.
I saw my son lose today;
I couldn't be prouder.
As the referee held the opponent's hand high in triumph, I
watched my son shake his rival's hand and stand straight and
tall.
I couldn't be prouder.
As they left the mat, I watched my son pat the boy on the
back
in congratulations and go to the opposite corner to shake the
coach's hand.
I couldn't be prouder.
Searching for just the right words of encouragement,
I approached my son.
He looked up at me with clear eyes and said, "Dad, I needed
that."
I couldn't be prouder.
TAKEDOWN
TENSE & READY
POISED & SET
CUSTOMARY HANDSHAKE
IS ALL HE'LL GET
10 FOOT CIRCLE, OUR
COMBATIVE START
THINKING ON YOUR
FEET AT THE HEART
MOTION, SIDE TO SIDE
FORWARD & BACK
A WILL TO WIN IS
ONE THING I DON'T LACK
MAT BURNS
FACE TO FACE ON A PADDED WALL
WEIGHT ON TOP, NO AIR AT ALL
WRISTS & HANDS LOST, NOT FREE
THROBBING PAIN IN THE LEFT KNEE
MUST WORK BACK TO MY BASE
DOWN BY ONE WITH THE CLOCK I RACE
ELBOW UP, I FEEL IT TWIST
GRIT MY TEETH, MAKE A FIST
PRESSURE OFF, NOW THE HALF
LOOK AWAY, I HEAD HIM LAUGH
RAISE MY BASE OFF THE MAT
HIT A SWITCH AS QUICK AS A CAT
NO I'M UP AND HE'S DOWN
IT FEELS BETTER THIS WAY AROUND
WORK SO HARD FOR THE PIN
BUZZER OFF, I'VE GOT A WIN
NECK WRENCH, HAMMER LOCK, BODY SLAM
KNEE TWIST, BLOODY NOSE, ELBOW JAM
YOU TAKE IT ALL, BUT WORTH THE HAZE
WHEN AT THE END IT'S YOUR HAND THEY RAISE
